About

Raison d’etre
Raison d’etre is French for reason to exist. The reason this web site exists is to practice good medicine…on healthcare. Almost everything done to our healthcare system, from Medicare (1965) to the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act (2010),  has made things worse.  The reason is simple: Washington is practicing bad good medicine on healthcare.

Principles of Good Medical Practice

  1. Evidence (proof) before all decision making
  2. Treat causes of sickness, not symptoms
  3. Always include long-term cost/benefit analysis
  4. Partner with patient

Ask yourself: Has Washington done practiced good medicine on healthcare…ever? That was a rhetorical question. Now you know why healthcare keeps getting sicker.

Proper Treatment Plan for Healthcare
The Plan is straightforward, reasonably simple, and quite hard.

  1. Read “Uproot U.S. Healthcare” and (forthcoming in June 2011) “Health Care Is Not A Right” in order for all of us to have a common understanding of why healthcare is sick and what the options are to fix it.
  2. Talk things through until we have a ground level consensus. This will require a long (several years) organized national dialogue on healthcare and certainly will start with much anger and shouting.
  3. After two tears of talking, Demand that the Federal Government hold a national vote that will establish healthcare principles. This ‘plebiscite’ should contain a maximum of ten questions about basic goals and ideas, not details.
  4. DO NOT DEPEND ON THE EXPERTS OR ON FATHER (THE GOVERNMENT) TO DECIDE FOR YOU AND TO TAKE CARE OF YOU.
  5. After that vote, we should Demand a new healthcare system based on those principles.
